Connection of the straw bale wall to the frame and infilling the gap between straw bales and the ceiling

One of the most common questions I get is how do we fill the gap between the top of the compressed straw bale wall and the ceiling. In this session I will cover that and how to make the structural connection between the straw bale wall and the timber frame in order that the bracing capacity of the straw bale wall is transferred to the frame to create a very strong and durable building. I include:

  • Connection of the compressed straw bale wall to the timber frame prior to removing the temporary bracing
  • Filling the space between the ceiling and the top of the straw bale wall
  • Render of the infill above the straw bale wall
  • How to fit additional insulation to avoid a thermal bridge at the wall to ceiling junction.
